Fiction Meets Reality
Current events and creative writing for 8th and 9th grade girls
This class combines the advanced fiction-writing elements of “The Heroine’s Journey” with the real world content of “Our World, My Voice.” Each week students will read and discuss a current events article concerning a relevant and appropriate topic. Students will be offered a variety of fiction and reflective writing prompts as a way of addressing the day's topic. In this format, students continue to explore their unique, creative voice with an awareness of the bigger world we share. Students will always have time to share and receive feedback. We follow the Amherst Writing Method, a methodology rooted in the belief that everyone is a writer, and that all feedback must be positive.
