The Art of Storytelling:
After School + Online Programs

Creative writing for grade school

  • Enrollment occurs quarterly and tuition is pro-rated depending on the day you register. You can read about tuition here.

  • If your child doesn't absolutely love their first class, just let us know before the second class and we will provide a full refund. We want your child to choose writing, purely for the joy of it!

The Art of Storytelling focuses on finding joy and confidence through writing. Students will learn about the various components of writing stories, and will work on developing their own unique voice through testing out a variety of genres. This process will involve playful writing prompts as well as self-reflection. Each session involves instruction on the "art of storytelling" along with an inspirational reading, imaginative writing prompts, and time to write, share and receive feedback.

At The Intuitive Writing Project, we use the Amherst Writing Method, a methodology rooted in the belief that everyone is a writer with their own unique voice. We support the discovery and development of one’s voice by ensuring that all feedback remains positive, focused on the strength of the writing. The more students write and share, the more they learn to believe in themselves, both as writers and as people.

To ensure that each student gets personalized attention and mentoring, we limit class size to 10. Each class is 90 minutes and meets once a week.

After School Enrichment: We are currently offering after-school, grade school programs at Emerson, John Muir and Black Pine Circle. To talk about bringing a program to your school, contact Elana.

This program focuses on putting pictures to words. Students will learn about the various components of writing comics and graphic novels. They will work on developing their own unique voice through interacting with various works by established authors. Similar to our Art of Storytelling class, this process will involve playful writing prompts as well as self-reflection. Each session involves instruction on creating images within the context of stories, along with a reading, imaginative writing prompts, and time to create, share and receive feedback.
