The Heroine's Journey

Fiction writing for high school girls

This is a creative program for girls who love to write fiction and invent new worlds. We discuss the structure of "the heroine's journey" in all stories (originally coined "the hero's journey" by Joseph Campbell), with particular emphasis on the internal and external development of each character (what they think they want vs. what they need to learn) and how to make heroic choices, being brave and resilient in the face of adversity. Through the process of writing and reading their words out loud, girls discover their own unique power as storytellers—and as the authors and heroines of their own lives.

To learn more about us, check out our list of 7 Frequently Asked Questions, our Note for Parents, the feedback from both parents and girls, and our Our Commitment to Girls.

Note: Our offerings are so unique, the best way to experience the magic of the Intuitive Writing Project is to have your daughter try one of our classes. But before she attends a class, it can be helpful to schedule a short phone chat. This way we can learn more about your daughter's interests and make sure we find the best-fit program to meet her unique needs. We are here to support you in the heroic work of being a parent!
